On Thursday, former President Donald Trump accepted the invitation to attend the wake of slain NYPD officer Jonathan Diller who was killed in the line of duty during a recent traffic stop.
Trump told reporters, “What happened is such a sad, sad event, such a horrible thing,” after he met with the family and friends of the officer.
Officer Diller was killed while checking on a suspicious vehicle illegally parked with a fellow officer. The suspects Lindy Jones and Guy Rivera were asked to move their car but when they refused to roll down the windows, Rivera shot Officer Diller.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
“We have to stop it. We have to stop it,” Trump announced. “We have to get back to law and order. We have to do a lot of things differently, because this is not working.”
Rivera has been charged with murder of a police officer, attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He currently is in a NYC hospital recovering from injuries sustained from returning fire from Diller’s partner.
Jones is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a defaced firearm. Jones has had a vast criminal history and finally has been remanded without bail.
Both suspects have extensive criminal histories but they keep getting released under the NY bail reform. Trump said the two “NEVER should have been let back out on the streets.”
“They don’t learn because they don’t respect. They don’t,” Trump said describing the two suspects. “They’re not given the respect, the police are the greatest people we have. There’s nothing and there’s nobody like them and this should never happen.”
The Trump Campaign issued a statement announcing “President Trump will be honoring the life and legacy of Officer Diller, and paying respects to his family, friends, and the NYPD for their terrible loss. Meanwhile, the Three Stooges — Biden, Obama, and Clinton — will be at a glitzy fundraiser in the city with their elitist, out-of-touch celebrity benefactors.”
