A Florida Highway Patrol trooper is recovering at home after using her police car to block a drunk driver headed in the wrong direction towards a 10K race.
The driver, Kristen Kay Watts, 52, allegedly drove "at a high rate of speed", driving through several road cones and barricades towards the 10K race of 7,000 runners.
Two troopers tried to intercept Watts after she continued to drive through several traffic stops. Watts got past the first trooper but collided head-on with Toni Shuck, who steered her patrol car into Watt's path to stop her.
Both Shuck and Watts sustained serious injuries.
Watts has been charged with DUI and reckless driving. She's being held on $52,000 bail.
