Don't Look Up!
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is projecting a significant asteroid fly-by today.
The closest it will get will be around 4:51 pm Eastern. (11:51am HST)
The asteroid is twice as big as the Empire State Building.
The space rock is expected to come within 1,231,184 miles of Earth. That might not seem like a lot, but it will be our closest encounter with an asteroid since 1933.
Because of that, NASA is calling this asteroid "potentially hazardous" for the "potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth."
