Several people who attended Traverse City, Michigan's National Cherry Tree Festival last week are being called heroes after a thrill ride malfunctioned and nearly tipped over while full of riders. People rushed to the Magic Carpet Ride attraction after it started spinning out of control, using their body weight to stop the ride from completely tipping over and injury people on board. Even though the ride's operator finally killed the power, bystanders said it felt "like an eternity" before the attraction finally stopped, allowing riders to unstrap from their seats and escape. The terrifying incident was captured on video and shared across social media. The ride was dismantled and an investigation is underway.
