Italy is really into selling homes for a few Euros or less. This time the Sicilian town, Castiglione di Sicilia, is selling around 900 abandoned homes for only one Euro each. The location is fabulous; Castiglione is along the slopes of Mt. Etna and near the beaches of Sicily's east coast. The cheap homes for sale? Not as fabulous. Half of them are in ruins. The other half are in better shape but will sell for around 4,000 Euro instead of just one. The mayor hopes his city's plan to bring in residents works, saying "We have a huge architectural heritage to rescue, packed with history. Over time, too many people have left, leaving behind a bunch of old, picturesque houses, many even dating back to the Renaissance." Interested? You have to take out a 4,000 Euro insurance policy and complete all of your homes renovations within three years. You can fill out an application at the project's website.
