The Miami Dolphins are releasing wide receiver Tyreek Hill, which will reportedly save the team $22.8 million against the salary cap, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday (February 16).
Hill, 31, who spent the past four years with the Dolphins, suffered a dislocated knee and torn ACL four games into the 2025 NFL season.
"Sources: Miami’s eight-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill is being released. Hill turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ACL, and now will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career. His release will save the Dolphins $22.8 million against the salary cap," Schefter wrote on his X account.
Hill was among multiple players cut by the Dolphins, including edge rusher Bradley Chubb, on Monday as the team still mulls the future of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa under new head coach Jeff Hafley.
"Tyreek Hill’s release by the Dolphins is the second high-profile cut the Dolphins made today, along with Bradley Chubb. There are other potential candidates, but the most significant still up in the air is the future of QB Tua Tagovailoa, who already has $54M fully guaranteed to him in 2026," Schefter wrote.
Hill was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, having won his lone Super Bowl in 2020. The 31-year-old is a five-time first-team All-Pro, a 2018 second-team All-Pro, an eight-time Pro Bowler and a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, having led the league in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns -- tied with Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans -- in 2023.
