New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo reportedly also suffered an open tibia fracture and ruptured deltoid ligament in addition to the previously reported right ankle dislocation during his team's Week 8 loss to the NFC East Division rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday (October 26), a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday (October 29).

Skattebo, 23, underwent emergency surgery Sunday night, hours after being carted off the field, as an open fracture means the bone penetrated the skin and infections are often a concern with open wound injuries. A source told ESPN that Skattebo's overall prognosis is relatively positive and he's expected to be cleared without complications prior to the beginning of his second NFL season, though rehabilitation will be crucial.

Giants coach Brian Daboll told reporters Wednesday that Skattebo has since returned to the team, "wheeling around" the facility and attending team meetings. The former Arizona State standout recorded 12 yards on three rushing attempts and one reception for an 18-yard touchdown in the first quarter prior to his injury.

Skattebo entered Sunday's game with 398 yards and five touchdowns on 98 rushing attempts, as well as 23 receptions for 189 yards and one touchdown, having seen an expanded role in recent weeks, coinciding with fellow rookie Jaxson Dart taking over as the Giants' starting quarterback. Skattebo was selected by the Giants at No. 105 overall in the fourth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft in April.

The California native was a First-team All-American, and First-team All-Big 12 selection during the 2024 college football season, which saw the Sun Devils make their first College Football Playoff appearance as the No. 4 seed under the new format.
