Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
It was created by Congress nearly 40 years ago after President Reagan signed it into law.
Dr. King is the only American besides George Washington to have a national holiday designated for his birthday.
First Lady Melania Trump shared her thoughts on the holiday. She tweeted her praise for the late reverend's fearless dedication to the civil rights movement.
Mrs. Trump also said Dr. King's pursuit of freedom and equal opportunity ensured a brighter and more prosperous future for generations to come.
