This Week's Weird News 8/12/22

A possible ghost cat caught on film, an eerie figure spotted in the woods of Kentucky, and an elaborate art heist involving a fake psychic were among the strange and unusual stories to cross our desk this week.

Several instances of possible ghostly activity popped up in this news this past week, starting with a piece of home security footage which seemingly shows the apparition of a cat crossing a driveway before vanishing into this air. Over in England, a woman reported hearing the plaintive wails of a child, but there was no one to be found when she went to help the distressed youngster, which led her to wonder if the cries had come from a ghost child. Meanwhile, a spilled pint at a haunted British pub was attributed to the establishment's resident mischievous spirit.

This past week featured a pair of stories involving faux psychics behaving badly, beginning with a case from Canada wherein a woman inherited a sizeable sum of money following her stepfather's passing and turned to a self-described clairvoyant on TikTok for advice on how to spent the windfall. Sadly, the so-called soothsayer wound up convincing her that she was cursed and ultimately bilked the young woman out of a whopping $11,000. And, in Brazil, a woman orchestrated an elaborate scheme involving a fake psychic who helped her steal her mother's $139 million art collection.

Easily the creepiest story from the past week came by way of Kentucky, where a person walking along a wooded path allegedly encountered an eerie figure dressed in what appeared to be a hooded black robe. The bewildered witness managed to capture video of the mysterious stranger, though the footage is incredibly brief as the person behind the camera was understandably trying to avoid the spooky individual. Theories for who the figure could have been range from the fantastical, including the Grim Reaper or the devil, to the prosaic, such as a prankster in a costume or simply a clever hoax.
