The state Senate voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to approve a gay marriage bill, by a vote of 20 to 4.  Senator Clayton Hee, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary and Labor Committee, told his colleagues "This is a defining moment in all of our careers and we should embrace it." A joint House committee hearing is scheduled for Thursday is expected to keep lawmakers working through the night. House Majority Leader Scott Saiki says it's likely the chamber will amend the bill to change religious exemptions. The Senate bill currently exempts ministers and other clergy from having to perform gay wedding ceremonies, but not for-profit businesses.
