A former Honolulu police major is being sentenced today for lying to FBI agents and filing a false tax return. Carlton Nishimura pleaded guilty in June in a plea deal with prosecutors, who agreed to dismiss other charges, including extortion and drug possession. Nishimura admits lying to FBI agents when he told them he didn't tell a woman about an investigation into the United Samoan Organization, which her husband belonged to. He also did not report about $9,000 on his 2005 income tax return. He faces a maximum of eight years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
