The U.S. military will take over the investigation of the murder of Ivanice "Ivy" Harris. She's the 28-year-old Oregon woman who came to Hawaii to celebrate her birthday last month and her body was found in some brush near Yokohama Bay. Police arrested a 38-year-old Marine Master Sergeant, but released him without charges. The U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific will assume primary jurisdiction in the case. Prosecuting Attorney Keith Kaneshiro says it's not important who prosecutes the case, but that justice is achieved. Kaneshiro said he has full confidence in the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific. Both parties agree it would be more advantageous to prosecute the case under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) than state law. The suspect apparently admitted picking Harris up and spending the night with her in a Waikiki hotel, but he claimed he did not kill her.
