House lawmakers yesterday approved a bill increasing the minimum wage to $10 an hour by January 2018. The tip credit would also expand to 75 cents an hour. Businesses would not be able to deduct the tip credit from workers who earn tips, unless the workers earn at least $7 an hour more than the minimum wage. Republican amendments called for higher tip credits to help restaurant owners and businesses absorb the higher minimjum wage. Those amendments were rejected. Senate leaders met privately yesterday said they would recommend that senators accept the House version and send the bill to the Governor.
