A former Halawa prison guard pleaded guilty Tuesday to smuggling methamphetamine into the Halawa Correctional Facility. Thirty-one-year-old James Sanders III, was captured on video and audio recordings giving an ounce of meth to a confidential informant working for the government on November 15th. He faces up to 50 years in prison and more than $5 million in fines when sentenced. Ted Sakai, Director of the Department of Public Safety issued a statement after Sanders' plea. He said: "The Public Safety Department is moving forward with our law enforcement and corrections partners to ensure our staff, facilities and the public at large."
