The Department of Education is soliciting bids for the construction phase of a $12 million makeover of Farrington High School's auditorium. A 40-foot section of the roof collapsed the day after Thanksgiving, during a thunderstorm. One person was inside at the time, but there were no injuries. The makeover will consist of gutting the space and completely renovating the inside. A DOE investigation found the roof collapse was due to a design failure dating back to the building's original construction in 1956. The department expects to award a contract next month, and work should begin at the end of summer.
