Honolulu Zoo officials have completed an investigation into an escaped chimpanzee last week and it found that Puiwa the chimp escaped from the outer edge of the chimpanzee exhibit, which had a damaged wall. The zoo is making repairs to the wall and modifying the exhibit to ensure no future escapes happen. Puiwa's getaway happened at about 4 p.m. June 25th. Zoo officials tranquilized the 14-year-old chimp about an hour after his escape. There were no injuries. The zoo is hoping to reopen the chimpanzee exhibit in about a month.
