Firefighters retrieved a body from waters near a popular surfing area at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki early Wednesday morning. Police got a call at 6:11 a.m. that a body was floating face-down in the water. Fire rescuers arrived on the scene at 6:14 a.m. and Honolulu Fire Department Spokesman Captain David Jenkins says the body of a man -- approximately 50 years old -- was retrieved in waters off 3037 Kalakaua Avenue. He was brought to shore and pronounced dead at 6:41 a.m. Hawaii News Now reports a witness described the man as a surfer, and said he had facial injuries. Police have classified this incident as an unattended death.
