A Kaneohe man has been charged in the shooting death of a 65-year-old man in Kahaluu on Sunday. Prosecutors have charged 18-year-old Samuela Mataele of Kaneohe with second-degree murder, first-degree terroristic threatening and use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony. His bail is $250,000. Police say Mataele fired one round from a rifle, striking a 65-year-old man in the head. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Mataele was related to the man he alledgedly shot, who was identified by friends as a former police detective sergeant from New Zealand. Mataele then allegedly threatened to shoot a 36-year-old man, but the man was able to run away and alert police. The victim was transported to a trauma center in critical condition, where he later died. Mataele was arrested after a six-hour manhunt in the area.
